Morning Musume. '14 concert in Niigata today #mmtour14_evolution

Kudo still sitting down at the beginning of the concert. but because she was recovering well, she was finally cleared to get up and participate halfway through the concert. Oda Sakura lost her voice during Only You, so Riho and Mizuki had to fill in for her lines.

it was announced that Sakura's throat wasn't feeling good. she won't sing for the rest of concert, but will continue to dance. Riho will sing her parts on the fly.

Kudo finally gets to move around, get sweaty and perform Watashi no Dekkai Hana with the Juukies.

there was a song change to Kenshuusei's Challenge act - They performed Ai no Sono ~Touch My Heart instead of Dokkan Capriccio.

in the last MC, Sakura was able to squeeze out her voice and say some words. she will get treatment tomorrow.

there was an earthquake in Nagano pref. at 4:25pm. it was felt in Niigata pref. where the MM concert is today. Nagano is next to Niigata.

Kudo sat down at the night concert.

Riho, Mizuki and Maa-chan all filled in for Sakura. those are some members to rely on. Maa-chan sang the harmony part with Riho in Tokisora.

Zunu wrote:Personally I think having good interviewee skills is a bit overrated; I've seen Tamori-san invite guests on to MS over and over again who had the interview skills of Korben Dallas on his way to Phloston Paradise.

But anyway, regardless I think that it's management who's at fault if at all. You can't leave it up to your young, inexperienced talent to just figure out how to be entertaining and wait for them to start working on it on their own. I mean ffs Korean agencies can give years of Japanese lessons to their talent. H!P can set up mock interviews now and again.

Hmm.. I don't know about overrated but it's definitely of a great value as a public entertainer. In my case, Sayu being great at interviews/talk shows, succinct, eloquent, witty and interesting at the same time and her ability to tell her stories and expressing herself is a huggeeee part of why I came to love her so much.

I don't even know how you practice for interviews other than go out there and do it until you get good over and over again.
I mean sure you can get a lot of helpful tips, learn all the theory but they HAVE to actually practice it in the real world setting. I don't think mock interviews can really replicate that experience, not the ones I've seen/heard anyway because there's almost nothing at stake.

This is a big reason why I'm slowly coming to terms with Sayu's timing. Without her it really is time to sink or swim for the 91011ki and it will be the next stage of their growth, arguably the most important one. They are now thrust into the center stage before they can settle into a comfortable pace and grow lax or too dependent on Sayu. In the meantime until Sayu's graduation though, they still do need to improve even further in almost every aspect to be ready for what's coming. Fast.

Despite all that, I'm still fairly optimistic. Their characters have slowly blossomed, they all seem to have the right attitude towards their work and properly motivated/driven to do their best, in no small part thanks to Sayu. With experience they will keep honing their skills and in time the confidence to go along with it for things like interviews will naturally come, hopefully. They're still very likely to have a hard time but that might not be so bad... the struggles, their frantic efforts to keep improving and overcoming the obstacles could very well be the most worthwhile to watch.

As long as the company keeps supporting and promoting them properly that is, god forbid another lapse into a platina-ki era like attitude from the management. :fear:

What I can think of is the lack of 9ki girls MC-ing concert MCs and even DVD Magazines since they never had a TV show to do that for. They got to do it a little, but it was always 5ki6ki doing it so they never got to practice much at all.
It's not so much that they need to practice at interviews, but rather to practice the brain to get all the words and sentences together -- as they are right now,t he sentences are all over the place and they repeat themselves over and over and can't really finish off a comment properly. I wish everyone could be as quick as Sayu but I know that that won't happen any time soon, though I really wish they could get more... I don't know. Practical? Better speakers in general -- even if it doesn't involve laughs or anything else but their thoughts.
Again, they're working on it and that's good. But at least one person has to work a lot until the end of the year so they have at least one good speaker of the group.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the way you guys are describing it is as if it's the girls' fault they are not good guests because they're not practicing enough or not serious about picking up interviewing skills. What I'm saying is that it's not really a thing that the girls can "work on" on entirely on their own, imo. It has to come from management ascertaining who the best prospects are, and nurturing that ability by setting up practice interviews, then having them interview on minor inconsequential shows, as many as possible, (think nksk and her bowling show, that level) then pushing them onto those merciless shows where they will be humiliated (think london hearts), so they learn how to be quick witted, and constantly working on it until they are ready for the top shows. That's what happened with Sayumi and with Yurushitenyan.

OTOH I concede that there has to be a certain level of ambition to be willing to go out there and try their best and not just give banal responses. To that extent the girls can "work on" overcoming their shyness or apathy. It's like with photobooks. A girl who doesn't want to have a photobook isn't going to get one. Good for her, but she's going to end up missing a skillset from her repertoire. Likewise, girl who doesn't want to or try to speak up in the group interviews is not going to get even to the level where UF will put her solo on a crappy show. Why even waste their time -- just get another volunteer.

EDIT: Sorry Sohee, I missed your post on the previous page where you had basically agreed with some of what I previously wrote. But I'm TOO LAZY TO RE-EDIT right now.

Oh we're in complete agreement in that case then, I also think real world situation outside of their familiar events are the only way to improve
And I don't blame the girls for anything yet..but hopefully I'll never have a reason to, just voicing my hopes that if or when they have the chance to get better at something that they'll grab it with both hands and hang on to it for dear life.

About the concert MCs and dvd magazine, I think they've done about as well as you can expect there.
I'm gonna be pretty pissed myself if my favorite who happens to be the most senior with the ongoing consensus that she's exponentially better suited to MC than anyone else in the group got entirely shafted in favor of giving the newbies a little more training when she already barely ever got the spotlight.

Yeah... I think her gracefully bowing out at the best timing and then letting the entirely new generation have their baptism by fire is the best option.
