exactly. i can't imagine basing liking them just for their voice because we see them/read about them so much outside of their performances. i like my idols to be candid, funny and natural, so even if they have the best voice evar they are unlikely to go high in my rankings without that. though i certainly do LOVE it when they're also talented on top of it all..

and that explains why i'm still not head over heels with any of the newbies. i certainly love them and see a lot of potential, but i think they haven't been in the industry long enough to have that natural charisma in front of a camera. a lot of them still depend too much on gimmicks to portray their personality (which maybe is why i keep liking Haruka more, and why as much as i fangirl Riho i can't rank her above the sempai yet). but i don't blame them, they're doing really well for the focus turning entirely on them so soon after joining.

I mostly just listen to the music. I haven't seen a full group concert since the Eri/Jun/Lin graduation.

but you read about them here.
if all you were interested in was the music and nothing else you would probably not be here. i'm sure there are plenty of people who download the music and listen to them casually without knowing much about the group other than maybe what they get out of watching the music videos (names/faces and the very very basics of their peronality, i.e. this is the cute one, this is the sexy one, this is the talented one, etc).

I was joking when I suggested that you guys pick out favorites based on vocal ability. ^^ I know how (most of) you are. But for me, I became a fan (and remain a fan) because I liked the music and the performances. Bad singers ruin the music/performances (for me), and good singers make it enjoyable. While I do like some of the weaker singers and enjoy reading about them and watching them do other things, they just can't be my favorites. But I understand that most fans of MM aren't like that at all.

Watch the Aichan graduation concert at Budokan, it was a very good concert.

And the H!P concerts Rockchan and Funkychan were also pretty good, it had some old songs that weren't performed in a while. These concerts were very well received among fans.

Really I'm only here because I find you guys funny and interesting. I actually only came to PLOP when I heard of Gaki's graduation.
Still you're probably right though. I'm kind of just saying.

A fan who never listens to them live wouldn't really notice any bad singing ability anyweay, all the girls (Save for Sayu) sound fine recorded. That includes Haruna/Eripon/Ayumi. They sound just fine in the studio so you wouldn't even be able to tell if they were bad singers of not. By the time someone hears them live, they will probably already picked a favorite.

As an aside my favorite voice in this current MM is Haruka
