because mikitty ended up being subleader before aichan because she had more seniority in the company because she started working for them before 5th gen debuted, even though she debuted AFTER 5th gen. Traditionally, seniority in the company (even as a receptionnist or something like that) is what counts for leadership. So it could VERY WELL have been Saki. (also, saki debuted in Zyx before debuting in BK anyway, as you are aware)

Miki was also older than Aichan though, wasn't she? Sayumi is older than Saki.

ZYX was announced on July 6th, 2003. Sayumi was announced as a member of MM。on January 19th, 2003. So... yeah?

It wasn't certain since this situation had never happened before since Yuko was the obvious leader for such a long time. And then came the 5th generation as the seniors in H!P.

Now we know that it's not just the seniority in the company that counts. But if it was only that it would have been Saki, the Hello! Project kids did do work before the 6th generation joined. Saki and Momo had the lead roles in Koinu Dan no monogatari in 2002 just to name a thing.

Considering Sayu is older and debuted earlier I thought it was obvious, as well.
But once Sayu and Reina have left H!P, it's obviously going to be Saki. Assuming Berryz are still in H!P by then.

I think the seniority ranking in H!P is something like...
Sayu/Reina → Berryz → ℃-ute → Mano → Ayaka/Kanon → 9th gen → S/mileage 2nd gen → 10th gen. No idea where Aika and the Kenshuusei fall under.
