Wow, I'm so surprised.
For me, when I look at Amped's chart and the way the numbers fluctuate up and down, It doesn't look like it's about which girls lead, or the choreo, or the marketing. To me it looks mostly about the quality of the singles themselves. The songs that sell better are better songs. Imo. And I find that heartening. UF, with their miserly, risk-averse nature, are never going to be able to compete against AKS or Random Sony Affiliated Agency's huge marketing and PV war-chests. But they can rival the best of them in terms of music quality, and that's enough to keep their fan base energized, buying singles and attending concerts.

^I agree for the most part... except that Egao/Love/Kawari wasn't exactly the strongest single... but it still sold more than wagamama. (I mean, we can all agree it was no where NEAR wagamama's excellence.)
...And also when you look at the other groups... ANGERME sold less this single by a tiny bit, but the songs were way better.
So it's a mixture of both, I think, as well as who has money at the time of release.

no, I don't agree. Egao no Kimi/Kimi no Kawari/What is Love is the strongest single. Egao no Kimi with a cool MV, Kimi no Kawari with an Olympic tie-up, What is Love - J-MELO song collaboration with viewers from around the world. the numbers don't lie. People loved all 3 of those songs.

In terms of marketing, yes.
In terms of the songs themselves, no.
Wagamama/Gundan had a better reception than Egao/Kawari/Love.

Yeah ANGERME's 19th single is way better than their 18th song-wise, and they haven't surpassed it's sales (yet). It could be from song quality, but I also think it's because of the back girl fans. Back girl fans have been waiting for this moment for a long time, and now the moment has come, so those who can afford to buy the single, are definitely going to. Plus they went all out for the promotion on this one, I don't remember seeing this much promo for their last single. The triple handshake events are definitely going to help, too.

Best single they've released IMO.

^^ Sukkiri talked about Zukki first half but the last half was all Maachan and her 愛され天然キャラ Lovable natural(?) character and how she calls her parents 母 (haha) and 父 (chichi) even though you're suppose to use the respectful vers. okaasan and otousan. Also there was a funny comment she made when she was asked about her hair the other day by Haruna or something like that.
The club citta again has Zukki but just when she got the turn, it pretty much moved past her and there's some Oda Ayumi tension going on, which Duu commented (jokingly) as something they have been worried about hehe Also during the Zukki part was Ayumi being Ayumi

And a bit more Ayumi when they showed a clip of the ima sugu dance team dancing a bit to acapella (showing off the dance). They also had clips of Erina's handspring, she also got to talk about not being able to be center yet.

^So when you think about it, it's like the press is trying to do what the promotion wants them to do: focus on the characters of the girls

Yeah tbh I thought this was gonna be one of those regular short vids where they talk about the release of the new single, daily # 1, short promo, and they cut it at that. But no, they actually show off the girls, let them talk, and that's great!
