"the hosts wants her to do AV while singing Jankenpyon"

Japan's modern misogynist views of society in a sentence. good luck to her.

He wasn't serious. It's TV and he's a comedian. Take it with a grain of salt.

wrong thread, but wanted to mention this so.
Spoiler: show
Japan has issues though, I'll be the last to deny that, but let's not take things comedians say too seriously.
If we wanna talk abt misogynist shit, let's talk abt: http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2014/0 ... a164d5fd97

Yeah the comedian is an example of how slack gender equality is. but even if it was a comedian, the atmosphere felt really intense and serious from the clip I watched. also I'm a bit sensitive about this since it must be hard for her to come back and have to talk about that stuff so early already.

"Early"? It's been eight years, and this is her third or fourth comeback (depending on how you count them).

I watched the whole show, and it was definitely not serious and intense. I know Japan has that image, but if you understand what they're saying it definitely changes a lot. Doesn't mean all of it - her talking about her group and all - isn't serious. Of course it is. But there is always laughter in there. There aren't that many ~serious, no laughs~ TV shows unless they're documentaries or similar.
And, it's not live, and most likely she was interviewed before hand if she would mind talking about these things or not so it wasn't just randomly brought up without her being aware of it. And even if she wasn't, she's hardly a beginner. Like Celedam said, it's her 3rd (I think the show counted) come back already and she's 26 years old.

I don't see how the number of her comback, age, or whether if they laughed it off or not makes the joke any less gross/sexist tho? It is what it is, no matter the tone. And there may be more serious things like what you linked, but that doesn't mean we let the 'funny' stuff slide just because it's funny, otherwise what's the point in fighting to make things better at all, y'know? It is indeed possible to be funny without being crass lol.

While I agree that the joke and everything about it was crass Kago also brought it upon herself. Kago might not understand that she was feeding into the misogynistic Japanese culture (few rarely do) but as they were talking about her offer to do a nude pictorial (supposedly they ask Kago's mother first, then Kago) the host/comedian asked if they had also asked to do video.

Kago's didn't give a straightforward answer but instead, "Well would you want to watch (it/one)?" which is when he made the jankenpyon comment. I think that if Kago had given a straightforward yes/no answer (however Kago was trained in the art of being an idol so she still knows how to entertain in appearances) the conversation would have gone differently.

I'm not necessarily saying that his response was okay however if you put into context the comedian had commented prior that the adult entertainment industry was disgusting/rude (I'm assuming for having gone to the Kago family while Kago was in a weakened state). Kago did egg it on to an extent. Japan does have a sexist and misogynistic culture but I do find it unfair to attack the show for something that Kago contributed to.
