From BLT magazine that was out on 4/24. Sayashi, Ishida, Oda.
Again, way before the announcement... one hell of a timing though

cmiiw as always

Morning Musume '14 who is stepping forward into an unknown territory
The three who shoulder the responsibility as the core of the group talk about the "Now" ...
No matter how high the wall, I want to surpass Michishige-san one day
ーーーThe three people gathered here today could be said to be the representative members of Morning Musume '14
「All three」 Eeeh?! No way...
ーーーIn singing and dancing you three are the ones pulling Morning Musume forward, aren't you?
「Ishida」 Watching Sayashi-san's intensity during lives I thought "wow as expected of her". Even when she said she's not in a good condition she always found the power to cover and not show it. Like, just from the tone of her voice. And her expression.
ーーー It doesn't matter whether it's high or low, it's not about how skillfully or unskillfully she does it either but it's how she just lets out her voice like "Doo~n!"
「Sayashi」 Ahaha. Sometimes during vocalizations there are parts where I thought "I want them to focus on this part, I want them to really listen to it!" and that's when my voice goes out like "Doo~n!". I told my singing instructor that I want to fix that part and consulted her about it but she said it's one of Sayashi's unique characteristics so we should find a way to capitalize on it instead. I think technique-wise I still have many parts that are lacking but if it's the emotion... or putting the soul in my singing I'm confident I won't lose to the other members in that.
ーーーWhat a reassuring statement! How about you Daa-san?
「Ishida」 Up until now when looking at myself I think I really did my best in dancing. Like when watching past footage I go "how nostalgic..." or "that was interesting!". But in recent concerts the dance instructor told me "You already have the basics fixed in you so now let's try to change the way you express it depending on each song". She also told me "Ishida doesn't really has any sex appeal huh" often (lol). Ufufu, I also think Oda-chan has it way more than me though.
ーーーSo the senpais said. For Sakura-chan, what do you think after looking at your senpais?
「Oda」 For me rather than thinking "I like her dancing" it was more like "I like the way she moves at that moment". It's like in my eyes there's a solo-angle mode, for example on one song I would always just follow Sayashi-san with my eyes and for another song I would only look at Ishida-san. After looking at them I'd go thinking "That was cool, can I move like that as well?". I do that as well for singing too, like how to control your breathing and how to pronounce the consonants and vowels. For the person I was watching those are probably innate talents they were born with but I'm always thinking about how to copy it and make it mine as well.
ーーーYou've really observed and thought about this calmly huh. Then what do you think about looking at Morning Musume as a whole?
「Oda」 We have to match each others' movements in our formation dances, but if we all move exactly the same way down the the minutest details then there's no point in looking at the individual's movements. Since this girl and that girl's all would be identical.
ーーーThe significance of all 10 members, something like that then?
「Sayashi」 Oh you said something really nice. Seriously, everyone has grown so much that it's a bit scary... it made me think "Am i properly growing as well?"
ーーーEven Riho-chan who has showed a very remarkable growth is thinking that as well? That you have to keep aiming higher and higher?
「Sayashi」 Umm yes~, I know it's going to be very difficult but in my mind my goal is to one day surpass Michishige-san.
ーーーOooh..... it's really high, you know? That wall.
「Sayashi」 I know. I also understand that it's not something that I can just say lightly ..... but if I don't at least aim for it I think Michishige-san won't ever be able to graduate comfortably with a relieved/relaxed feeling. I'm not very good at expressing this with words so I don't know how I'm supposed to convey this feeling but I just know that I have to hold onto this feeling. There's still a lot of things for me to learn and there are still a lot of career experiences I have to accumulate but even so, I'm certain that just this feeling of wanting to surpass Michishige-san is something that I have to always keep in my heart.
「Ishida」 This is also something that's been on my mind lately. Whenever we appeared in variety shows there's Ikuta-san whose character is quite established by now (lol), in dancing there's Sayashi-san and for talks there are Michishige-san and Harunan...
ーーーSomething like, you can't be the no.1 at anything?
「Ishida」 Something like that, yeah.
「Sayashi」 I think it's important to keep your own individuality/unique points. I'm also worried about a lot of things but I believe it's better not to try to unreasonably, forcefully change it. In that vein, I think it's great the way Ayumi-chan recently has naturally begin to show her own good points. That way the fans too will start wanting to love and support her. For Oda-chan I like how she just so honestly, without any embellishments, loves singing... Everyone is really such good girls (earnestly).
ーーーAt any rate, whoever and whatever I asked it seems to me the current Morning Musume '14 all showed a very high consciousness in their answers, surprisingly so.
「Sayashi」 Everyone has times they feel like they're wandering aimlessly, times when they feel like they've lost their way completely. But to myself and those people, I'd like to be able to say "That's not true at all".
ーーーThat strength and kindness. And always keeping your gaze aiming upwards. It looks like the enjoyment/fun in store for the future is still far from being exhausted.
Rihoriho is such a good girl....
Everyone is

Might be my own bias talking but I love how I kept seeing part of Sayu's teaching in all the girls now. They all really took her examples to heart and become so reliable... Sayu must be proud.
