It's interesting that any comments of her being "big" is always being called as "weird unrealistic body image in Asia."
As long as she is healthy, yes that is great and all, but there is a standard idol image in Japan. She doesn't fit that. She gets called out for it. End of story.

If anything, she's at least not being ridiculed like Aibon and Tsuji were...

If all the girls were like her size, Momusu would not be popular.

Uhm... that clip about Zukki is like super old isn't it? I could have sworn I saw that awhile go. Maybe it was a different message board?

Anyway, Shokotan! I'm so happy she's still a fan of H!P. I'll always love her for that. <3

Using the lottery numbers in the bottom-right corner, the report was originally broadcast on 03 May. That particular clip, however, was posted yesterday, and I'm fairly sure we didn't see it here.

Anyhow, the point is not when the report was broadcast. The point is that the issue is being discussed not only outside the fandom but also outside Japan. I know everyone's gut reaction is to take it personally and jump to her defense, but try to see the bigger picture.

And it's not even just in Japan or Asia. There's a standard almost everywhere. It's just slightly different for different countries. Asian people really tend to be smaller, so what they considered to be ideal there would be smaller than what it would be in the Western world. Celebrities that don't fit the ideal image tend to be the ones that are extremely talented (I've seen bigger people in choir and they have very powerful voices), and there are cases where image doesn't matter as much anyway, like if you're primarily a singer and/or a musician. But being an idol is very much about your image (not just what you look like but your personality and all), so people say something.

Zukki has lost a lot of weight since... I don't even know when. Quite some time now. Her weight has been going up and down over the past few years, so there's a picture to support every claim people want to make about her weight. I feel bad that the only media attention she's been getting is about her weight, but I hope that this allows her to also show her other sides.

What I think is probably more common in Asian culture is to just point out to people what their body is like. Last week I walked out of work and ran into a group of Thai students, all of which I just met recently and don't know well. Within a few minutes I got comments about how I look tired, how I'm so tall, and how I'm so skinny. I didn't mind at all for many reasons, but I've known people who didn't appreciate being called fat and such.

I am perplexed at wota who think that Zukki is the chubbiest H!P girl of all time. Risako, Aibon, and Tsugi were all chubbier at one time. If anyone, she could be compared to Mika Todd.

Celebrities project an unrealistic physical image everywhere. According to Hollywood, the United States is populated largely by young women with Barbie figures, big boobs, blonde hair, and fifty pounds of makeup, and guys who look like male models, bodybuilders, or both. And the truth, of course, is that that's not even what you see when you look around at people on the streets of the actual community of Hollywood.

I know that talking openly about weight and appearance seemed to be pretty common among Filipinos -- my ex-wife didn't like it, and used to roll her eyes when older relatives would say to one of the cousins in particular (who had serious weight problems), "Look how fat you are!"

You forgot Hitomi. Around the time of Sexy 8 she was at her biggest and I remember people talking about it. Heck, they barely gave her much screen time at all during the PV for Shiawase desu ka?.) Some really bad pictures were floating around as well. I remember one being they replaced the mic with a hotdog. But soon after that she started taking care of herself more and slimmed down to the Hitomi we see today.

Lol, that was a 2:46 video and it seemed like half of it was Gotou Maki. A lot of skinner girls in that shuffle got very little screen time as well.

As for Yossie being chubby, she's a lot taller than most of the Morning Musume girls, past and present, so her being heavier can be hidden by styling much easier. On the other hand, she was chubbier than Zukki, and Zukki is more muscular than Yossie has been past or present.

I dunno. Yossy's is probably pretty fit from all the fitness idol stuff she was doing. Plus Gatas.
