Some of the things I've seen on stage over the years:

Frank Wedekind's Lulu (starring Justine Bateman) @ Berkeley Repertory Theatre
The Real Live Brady Bunch @ Alcazar Theatre, S.F.
Théâtre Sans Fil's production of The Hobbit @ Zellerbach Hall, U.C. Berkeley
Theatre of Yugen's A Noh Christmas Carol @ Dean Lesher Theatre, Walnut Creek
Marin Shakespeare Company's production of Robin Hood @ Forest Meadows Amphitheatre, San Rafael
Enrique's Above and Beyond the Valley of the Ultra Showgirls @ Transmission Theater, S.F.
The Tiger Lillies' Shockheaded Peter @ American Conservatory Theater, S.F.
A Midsummer Night's Dream @ Colorado Shakespeare Festival
Shunputei Koasa Funtō Kōen (with Kago Ai) @ Le Theatre Ginza, Tokyo
Twelfth Night @ Shakespeare Santa Cruz

Plus a fair number of amateur and school productions, as well. And I don't think I see a lot of live theater.

I wish I'd managed to see Harold Pinter's No Man's Land, starring Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, at Berkeley Rep last month.

Given that, theater doesn't necessarily look so bad. XD

Yeah context is everything. In New York City most people that I knew who did theater and acted in plays were hoping to become actors for film one day. A friend of mine has gotten some background roles in TV shows and he did alot of theater (like off broadway stuff).

And around here, to some degree, people tend to take the movie and TV industries for granted -- just about any small city or neighborhood is likely to be a location shot at one time or another, being an extra is a hobby for more than a few people, and it doesn't take much at all to get your name in the IMDB. And of course, the oversupply of aspiring actors means that there are a lot of people willing and eager to do 99-seat theater productions. The quality may be quite variable, and the quantity of theater peoductions in L.A. probably doesn't touch New York, but I think that people around here have respect for theater, and they actually do go to a lot of productions.

Mano in a Live Action Patlabor Movie!!!

I can imagine her as a Noa to some degree, as she's about the right size, and can probably act angry. Though I'm guessing she won't play the main role.

For some reason I'm imaging Daishi as a short version of Shinobu. Mainly because of her 123 hair style.

It can't be just me seeing Hamasaki Ayumi in her every now and then?
