I thought Ai-chan sounded fine. Obviously not at her best but it also sounded like she was purposely holding back, probably trying not to strain her vocal chords too much.

And funny; even on a bad day, Ai-chan is still better than most singers. She just gets held up to different standards :P

I got the impression that she lost interest in pursuing an idol career. As an adult, she never seemed "hungry" for the limelight in the way that Sayu is, or even Yossi. Hell, her drag-queen tribute artists have capitalized more from her early success than she has. I think she could easily fill up a couple thousand seats even today. While UF has been tragically amateurish in many respects, they've helped get steady gigs for other no-talent girls who were willing and able to work, such as Koharu and Konkon. IMO the only thing stopping Ayaya is Ayaya.

I remember when JPM complained about Ayaya not caring back all the way back in 2005. Heck, even in 2004 people were just screaming for her to stop releasing ballads and get back to idoling (after Kiseki no kaori dance). Her new musical direction was her own choice; I'm pretty sure I read an interview about her wanting to do music she likes ("adult contemporary", like Norah Jones but most especially jazz, she wanted to become an "artist" more than an idol) when she turned 18. She could have done like Maki and changed agencies but no, she stayed with UFA to appear on TV and release her mandatory yearly single.

Again, I believe this is her own decision. GAM could have lasted longer if Mikitty hadn't gotten involved, but I doubt it was a unit meant to last anyway. Honestly, I thought it was the end of Aya's career when Chocolate Damashii was released. I just felt she didn't want to release that single, like she was bound to release something before the end of the fiscal year (with a CM, contract clause) and just went with it. It was painful to watch. Her illness was the last straw.

Ayaya has probably the most boring music in the whole H!P history
Her early tunes were great ofc, and even had a few good singles after that infamous "change", but most of those were just plain awful imo. That's sad, because I loved her, and really, really tried to get into her music, but then I gave up and realized I was lying to myself when I said I liked her "artist" side...

I usually have no problem with ballads or what most would consider boring music, in fact most of my favorite Ayaya singles are ballads ("The Last Night", "Seishun Sensei", "Zutto sukide ii desuka?")

...can't say I like anything she releases after Zutto Sukide Iidesuka though :/

Chisato Moritaka will be performing on NHK's Minna wo Tsunagu Mahou no Melody on Aug 14. The program will feature artists performing special versions of Disney and Studio Ghibli classics.
