I don't know if it qualifies as an excuse but IIRC on twitter Makoto had been saying about a week ago that she had a bad throat cold.

I know I missed it. But do they ever talk about how Yukina was apart of the auditions a lot?
Like was it ever made into a big thing? I find it interesting, but it doesnt appear to be a big deal or anything.

Considering Yukina is quite a big personality in Japan, it's more interesting than it would be for any international only-H!P fans. They mention it every now and then when they talk about how she came to become famous. And whenever Aichan is brought up of course.
I find that episode really interesting and the fact that Yukina was in the auditions, as much so. If nothing else it's good exposure/mention of the group on TV that a lot of people probably watched, so.

That was AWESOME.

And according to Yukina a month after she "lost", Tsoonk (or UF*) called her and asked her if she wanted to go solo. But she turned them down. Also, it's been said before but Tsoonk said Yukina didn't get in because she lacked cooperative skills/was too individual. Ai-chan comments that she thinks its a good thing because since idols are "created" (it was interesting seeing Ai-chan acknowledge that they're created) she thinks it would've brought Yukina down/wouldn't let Yukina shine as an individual.

On another note; Ai-chan says the advice she most clearly remembers to this day is when Maki told her that "you get in by copying/mimic-ing (me/others)". Maki said that when she first started she just imitated Yaguchi. Ai-chan said she remembered that so clearly that she eventually told every successive generation after her that.

Aichan's comment about idols being "made-up" or "created" is more about the stricter boundaries while they're on active duty if I understood correctly.. not about the personalities they showed to the camera. Considering Aichan's idol character is one of the most subdued of an Idol that I've ever seen (I loved her for that btw) and how even now she barely change much it kinda makes more sense to me than her suddenly taking the stance that an idol behavior/persona is simply a made up creation from out of nowhere. What this gotta do with Yukina's character I have no idea lol, I don't know much about her... thought she was more of a gravure idol than an talent tbh

Haven't watched the whole show to the part where she said that thing about mimicking the previous members myself but if she really said that I'm glad at least 6ki and 9ki didn't just swallow that advice whole when Aichan was in the group . Absorbing the good things and learning from the more experience members is great and all but it's very different from just mimicking. Not to mention that seeing new members adding their own different spins is part of what keeps me interested in the group.

Yukina started out as a model but then moved onto talent-ing. And she is very individual and isn't the type to adapt to the rules that she would have had to follow as an idol. Boyfriends being one that she would break immediately.

The thing about mimicking makes a lot of sense and I hope that 9ki and 10ki keep saying it to future generations. If a girl joins and she has no idea of how to dance or sing properly, with personality etc, the best way to get the hang of it, is to mimic senpai until you know what kind of individual touch you want to put on your singing/dancing. Considering how so many of the girls are young when they join, this makes sense too. If they wanna dance like Riho - then they should do their damn best to mimic her dancing.

The way I understood it, it was more along the lines of how idols are put together. Kind of how we think of One Direction or The Wanted being "created". Idols and idol groups aren't really organic forms of entertainment but rather packaged for our consumption.

I think what Ai-chan meant is that there are some girls who are completely comfortable in being part of a group including the restrictions (that you talked about). For instance Sayu thrives in the situation whereas I think Ai-chan was saying Yukina would easily be a rule breaker and be kicked out.

^I understand, not really disagreeing in the first place :)
Although these days, as a general rule I'm very skeptical to consider any forms of entertainment that is put to a screen as organic.

Thx for the info.

If that's the case then I agree, they really should.
Strictly in terms of technical abilities and setting a bar to measure their growth, I won't mind the mimicking much but like you said, after a certain acceptable baseline level of skills is reached, I'd still prefer having a Riho and then a Mizuki who sings and dances like Mizuki, Erina, Ayumi and even Sayu/Haruna, who sings and dances like themselves in the group... if that makes any lick of sense  xD
