It's that time of the year again!

Only this year it's a little different!

It will take place at the AKB Festival in Nissan Stadium in June. (that is their huge summer concert for this year, the equivalent of Tokyo Dome).
Like last year, there will be 64 announced spots.

(1) #1~#16 = 32nd single Senbatsu members
(2) #17-#32 = Under Girls
(3) #33-#48 = Next Girls
(4) #49-#64 = Future Girls

like last year. Each "tier" will get a song on the single, and there will probably be one for the rest of the girls (last year it was under the name "waiting girls" so that may be the case again)

However, who you will be able to elect is different:

Eligible members need to register (meaning eligible members can opt out if they so wish)

Eligible members go as follows:

-All current members of AKB48, SKE48, NMB48 and HKT48 as of March 31st of this year
-The 4 transfer students in SNH48 and JKT48
-Any members (past membres included) that spent at least 4 years in the group

yes, you heard that right! past membres may be in this senbatsu sousenkyo single!

The biggest thing we have to wait for now, is to know which past members will choose to enter the election, and the biggest question of all, of course, is the following: Will Acchan enter??

Gosh, I'm excited.

Here is the list of eligible ex-members:

Nakaya Sayaka, Masuda Yuka, Sato Natsuki, Maeda Atsuko, Yonezawa Rumi, Hirajima Natsumi, Oku Manami, Ono Erena, Sato Yukari, Urano Kazumi, Kohara Haruka, Ohori Megumi, Noro Kayo, Hirata Rikako

Some of these girls left because of scandals (Rumi, Natsumi) some are straight out of the entertainment business (Oku Manami), a lot were AKB48 members that ended up going to SDN48 which then disbanded (we saw a lot of them at Tokyo Dome, I expect them to register). Hirata Rikako is the only member who was never part of AKB48 (she was SKE48 captain of Team S).

Will keep posting info to this thread as it comes, we should have the list of who registered around April 7th.

The fans who can vote for the election will include those who purchase AKB48’s 31st single (currently untitled) which will go on sale on May 22, fan club members, mobile members, and so on. The time to vote for the election will be during May 21 at 10:00 am ~ June 7 at 3:00 pm (JST).

Maeda Atsuko, who won the 1st and 3rd general elections and who would be allowed to participate despite her graduation given this year's new rules, has tweeted that she will not participate because she will be busy filming overseas during the date of the election.

This is probably a huge disappointment for fans who hoped to see her come back for one single, however it doesn't rule out her participating in future years.

Additionally, former members Masuda Yuka, Yonezawa Rumi, Ono Erena and Nakaya Sayaka stated they wouldn't participate.

Current member Oba Mina stated she won't participate (I couldn't find an exact translation of her blog post, I'm really curious as to why!). it might have something to do with accountability for her scandal.

Nito Moeno is also not participating as she's graduating in April. She would be allowed should she wish to, but it makes sense she declined. No words if members who have already announced their graduation (Kasai Tomomi, Itano Tomomi) will participate.

Former SDN48 members Noro Kayo and Urano Kazumi, on the contrary, stated they will participate.

It's sort of a bummer for me, I liked all of the girls who said they wouldn't participate (and don't care much for the SDN48 girls.) I'm especially sad about Ono Erena not participating.

Major disappointed that my AKB48 oshis (W Minami) are BOTH opting out. But happily enough Lovetan is participating so YAY. With Takamina, Miichan and Itano out, that leaves at the very least 3 spots open in Senbatsu which would have been taken before. I'm thinking we'll see some big changes! Big chances Kitarie would have made it too, so her too.. Really surprised at some girls decision not to enter, like Kawaei or TakaJuri. also wouldn't have been surprised if Mirukii had made it to senbatsu.

This is going to be interesting! Yuuko, Mayuyu, Yukirin, Jurina, Rena, Sayanee, Shinoda, Kojiharu are all sure bets for senbatsu, but i'm wondering who the others will be.

Gosh I'm SO excited. Okay. Sorry.

I just read from another source that Tomochin, Takamina and Miichan are ALL participating so I'm really confused now. I'm going to eat and check this out and correct my list. Sorry about that. Apparently they all submitted their applications on the last day.

I saw some fans were speculating that this was because of Rinatin lol. Unfortunately this leaves out some other cool alumni, such as Oshima Mai, Hoshino Michiru, Kayano, etc. They could have did 3+ years, so that more people could be included :lol:
