I just watched the extras for the Stacy Musical. The highlight was they did an "encore" with Reina's aria and had all of the guys out of their uniformed characters and doing their minor characters. Zukki also changed her dance spotlight to doing bug imitations. The crowd was very into it, but since it was a Japanese crowd they didn't form a mosh pit.

Yeah around that time C-ute and Berryz were slowing down in sales, Morning Musume had stabilized and with 30k per single and rising S/mileage had potential to over throw Morning Musume. Morning Musume kept wavering anywhere between 30-50k so it was possible that S/mileage could do better while Morning Musume would do worse. There hadnt been an audition in a while and talk about 9th gen hadn't happened yet if I recall correctly so who would know MoMusu's future? It wasn't fact just speculation and I think it was reasonable. Sadly for S/mileage that momentum was lost after the auditions and graduations. (I'm sure Tsunku was hoping it would give them a push instead) Unfortunately this has been a huge year for Morning Musume C-ute and even Berryz, but sadly S/mileage has had a worse year rather than a better one. Tsunku has definitely noticed this. Mano also hasn't been doing well and now she's graduating...

Also: Third gen! Add Hamachan! She seemed more S/mileage material when I watched the 11th gen audition footage.

And I wouldn't really mind if they demoted Rina and Kanana just to make it interesting

(Remember when Tsunku said he had more ideas for the eggs?... This could be it!)

That just reminds me of that crazy talk a few years ago about Berryz and C-ute overtaking Morning Musume just because their sales picked up.
They were never in a position to be anything close to the group Morning Musume is. Doing well for one or two singles doesn't erase the history of another group. They'd need to do a lot more than sale 30K for one single before they could be called Morning Musume's successors or whatever.

S/mileage were also getting a lot of attention what with being labeled the miniskirt group and taking on KARA (i think?) as rivals with their "fresher legs" declaration during a time that Kpop was on top, they made more TV appearances and were invited to idol-related specials. they got the newcomers award, had a noticeably larger percentage of female fans, and seemed to be the exception to the HelloPro-is-no-longer-relevant mentality that seemed to be the case with the other groups in the eye of the general public. and yes, their sales seemed to indicate that if they kept it up they could very well usurp Momusu one day (considering it was around the time the graduations started for MM, when people were doing the "this is the beginning of the end for MM" talk that comes with any graduation).

i'd say for S/mileage this period of optimism for the group lasted from late 2010 to mid 2011. i'd say you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that still has this opinion (of having a chance at taking over H!P) for the S/mileage of today.

^ oh, that's right. thanks! i was trying to remember what group was popular at the time, i can't believe i forgot them. they're the only Kpop group i kind of listen to lol.

I only remembered because some SNSD fans took it to be more than what it was, threw it way out of proportion and whined about it a lot.

I agree with most of what Daisuki Daiiyo had said except for the thing about Rinapuu being ace, I honestly think they should hold 3rd gen auditions to find a new ace and to add Fuyuka who many want back in.

I know, I just love Rinapuu so much hahaha. She's got the personality of a slice of bread though, poor girl. She's got front girl looks in the making though, but other than that there really isn't much that draws you to her hahaha. She's more of a low-key front girl, like Yurina.

But I guess auditions would be cool. Or if Tsunku just threw in Hamaura from the MM auditions and told the newbies that they would be demoted, and would have to fight again for a limited 2 spots And after many tears are shed, he just goes and promotes them all again anyway lol.
