I disagree with this because she was pushed a lot at the beginning. But the fans disliked her, so they had no choice but to put her in the back.

That's still Riho. She dances well but she's not a standout when it comes to their choreography.

It seems to me that a lot of the trouble Aika faced was a result of her being initially presented as another single-generation member (remember, Junjun and Linlin were introduced later) -- "Here's what you get, take it or leave it" -- rather than as one of a group of three or four -- "Here they are - pick you favorites!" A single-member generation now would be a mistake, no matter who it was, but a multi-member generation is a very different matter.
Can you imagine if Sayu, Eri, or Reina had been the sole 6th-gen member, introduced as the new ace, miracle, BVM v2.0, second coming of Mazu, or whatever? When they first started out, they were just the quiet little girls sitting in the back row on H!M, which was OK, because they needed time to develop -- none of them were ready to be thrown out in front like that. Tsunku might have been able to get away with pitching Miki that way, but he didn't really even try it with her -- he just tacked her onto the 6th gen (whih was a much smarter move).

"I hate Mogi because if she joined Morning Musume, a lot of people would hate her, and I don't want anyone who people hate in the group, so I hate her." = circular logic, or logically circular? :hehe:

I don't want her in the group cause I like my group of awesome girls. =D
...and yes Maachan is awesome in her own way.

But then again, idol awesomeness = effective packaging (and not much more), and Mogi's already been repackaged:

Of course, I'm saying this all knowing that once we catch a glimpse of the actual finalists (if not long vefore) we'll all be arguing, spamming, taking sides on, and spinning weird theories about somebody else entirely -- somebody who we don't even know exists at this point, and probably based on about three seconds of actual video. :mikihead:

I don't even know who Kikka is. Who is Kolla? :hehe: I know who Aika is.

What I mean is, first: like Aika she's another mostly untalented girl who doesn't got the looks either.
And most importantly: If she passes she'll be instantly hated and ignored, just like Aika has been all these years. Aika was mostly hated because Kikka didn't get in (who was the fans favorite) and fans just couldn't get over that. Why pick a plain and unremarkable girl over the talented and cute ones? It could happen again with Mogi.

Also, remember times are different now, girls aren't as "rough" as the ones who were picked years ago. Previous experience in the showbiz/idol/modelling world is appreciated.

Well, ignoring all the ridiculously false revisionist history tidbits on Aika and Yuu, let me address the "Why pick a plain and unremarkable girl over the talented and cute ones?" thing.

Because they are Morning Musume, and that IS what they do. The number one priority of Tsunku when he picks a MM member is to piss as many western fans off as possible.

ON RIHO

Ok well this isn't fair. You can't distort reality just because you don't like the fact that she inherited Ai Takahashi's center position.
Is it fair that Riho gets ALL of the lines? NO. No its not. Is she as good a singer as Ai-chan? No. Is she as good a dancer as Ai-chan? Maybe, but you could argue no and that's because she just entered the group and at Ai-chan's peak Ai-chan had a good 5-6 years behind her. But your going to argue that Riho has NO TALENT??? You are really going to say that Riho is just like Mogi? Really? Riho's voice is squeaky and unstable sometimes yes and their are other girls in the group that sing just as well as her, but aren't getting the opportunity thank's to Tsunku and Riho's popularity among the Japanese fans. Still you can't say that she can't sing. But what really gets me is that you are talking about her dancing. Riho can dance. Riho and Ayumi are the two best dancers among the Kyukkies and Jyukkies and you can't take that from her. The 9th gen audition showed it and everyone was impressed. She got to do a dance solo with Risa and Ai on her first tour and you know what... I think she deserved it. You can argue about her singing, but her dancing.... she can dance. Ayumi can too, and thankfully she is getting some notice for it in the group even if it isn't as much a Riho. And yes Ayumi deserves equal treatment in that regard. Plus all the girls who can't sing or dance deserve lines and chances to shine too! In the golden era the girls who were in the center rotated and I wish we had that today.

But you cannot convince me that Riho is as talentless as Mogi. Mogi's only charm is that she is the underdog and people take to that. You can't convince me that people hate Riho because she has no talent rather than because she is getting too much attention and people want to see other girls shine because thats all it is.

Riho had alot of love coming out of the 9th gen audition and had she been shoved in the back in favor of more Ai/Reina time then everyone would still love her. Its really all too predictable.

ON AIKA

Parhelion69 wrote:Main reason I don't want Mogi in:

The problem with Aika:
She was plain, boring and didn't stand out in anyway. She wasn't obviously a good singer or dancer. She was just Aika. This is not Mogi's problem. Mogi couldn't sing and couldn't dance when she was in the 9th gen auditions and mainly just cried. But Aika's main problem isn't any of this, as many people pointed out Aika was the only one chosen during her audition and everyone wanted Kikkawa Yuu. Everyone was so angry that their fav's weren't chosen in favor of Aika that they took their anger out on Aika. Four years later everyone still hated her, but no one could remember why so they just pointed out that she wasn't cute or whatever. Mogi will not have this problem as long as she is in a 4 nin or 3nin generation where some of the girls we love are also accepted into the group.

Btw can someone tell me where this Mogi is because she is kind of cute. I saw the audition teaser and that Mogi was not this Mogi. That Mogi looked like 9th gen audition Mogi.

If Kikkawa was that much better that Aika how come there aren't any punk rock bands that are doing odes to Kikka?

Granted I joined the fandom after the 8nin audition, but I always thought people wanted Sato Sumire as the fav, not Aika or Kikka. And yes the Mogi in the teaser was the Mogi I remember from 9th gen auditions.

I was all for "bad" Minami -- the Reina-semi-lookalike wota girl who couldn't keep quiet on her blog. XD
