Today I learned there's not only a new Dresden Files book (the first in five years, with a corresponding in-story time jump), there's also a new Black Company book (the first in 25 years, not counting Port of Shadows which is a side-story set much earlier in the series).

I'm not sure how I feel about the latter. I liked how the series ended in Soldiers Live since it was always Croaker's story, both figuratively and literally. (Get it? Because Croaker was the Company's Annalist? Haw!)

Never heard of Black Company, but I've read the entire Dresden Files series, so good to know!

The elevator pitch: "A legendary mercenary company are hired by the evil empire to do what they do, and what they do isn't very nice. They're not evil themselves, they're professional, in a world where that is rare. This sets off a chain of events that spans continents and generations."

And yet somehow, at its heart, it's a story about family. Complete with crazy, bickering uncles and that one brother who talks little but says a lot.
