I just watched a PBS documentary called Language Matters with Bob Holman (2015), about endangered languages and efforts to revitalize them. It focuses on the Aboriginal languages of the Goulburn Islands off the northern coast of Australia, which have very few remaining speakers (and some of which are already extinct), as well as Welsh and Hawaiian, both of which have made a resurgence in the past half-century.

Welsh and Hawaiian are both high on my list of languages that I wish I could speak. I took two semesters of Medieval Welsh when I was 19, 20 years old (i.e. when Medieval Welsh was what they still spoke in Wales), so I could still recognize some of the words that people were saying in the documentary -- more than I expected, actually. But I was definitely inspired to refresh my knowledge of the language.

Western Armenian, the first language of my maternal grandparents, is on UNESCO's list of "definitely endangered" languages. I truly wish that I had learned it as a child. If my mother hadn't passed away when I was so young (6½), I might have had more of an opportunity to do so.

TOO MANY LANGUAGES TO LEARN, TOO LITTLE TIME!!!

Captain Phillips: Enjoyed it, even if it did stress me out. :fear:
Drive: Was alright until the ending. Ryan Gosling always looks tired as hell.

5/13 edit:
Hellboy: I forgot this was really fun. Not Oscar worthy by any means, but I still enjoyed it.
Independence Day: Resurgence: I never saw the original movie, so I can't judge based on the plot. The effects were pretty rad, though!
Arrival: Did anything happen in this movie other than an explosion? It made no sense to me. Zzzzzzz.

Wadjda (2012) — Wadjda is a spunky 10-year-old who wears blue jeans and black Chucks and wants nothing more than a bicycle, to beat one of the neighborhood boys in a race. But when you're a girl in a religiously conservative country like Saudi Arabia, this is a much taller order than it sounds. Excellent film, highly recommended.

The making of the movie faced similar difficulties, being the first feature film ever to be made in Saudi Arabia, a country where cinemas are forbidden, and by a female director, no less! So watch the special features, as well.

^ I've had that movie in our family Netflix queue for a while now, but for whatever reason it always seems to get pushed back in favor of other movies (both new and old). I saw it airing on TV a couple of days ago and made the ridiculous split moment decision not to bother recording it.

^ It was pretty far down in my Netflix queue, too, but the Blu-ray was available at the local public library, so I grabbed it.

Princess Mononoke (1997)
Japanese anime blockbuster movie in 1997. It was OK. I was disappointed but then I’m 20 years late in viewing it. The theme song was good though. My expectations were set way too high based on the ravings of a Libtard.

I just saw Ghost World again, which I hadn't seen since its original theatrical run in 2001. I'd forgotten how darkly hilarious it is. Plenty of fun little details, too, like the poster for The World of Henry Orient on Enid's bedroom wall (that movie would make a perfect double feature with Ghost World) or Seymour's disparaging comment about the R. Crumb record (director Terry Zwigoff had previously made the Crumb documentary). I even noticed that Enid has a phone like mine!

Throw Momma from the Train: Weird movie. It did make me laugh, though. :fear:
Hidden Figures: SO GOOD. :crying: I wanna see it again and again and again.

^ Ooh I've been interested in that without knowing what it's really about. Now I have to check it out.
