She was #4 last year. So no, not that super weird in my opinion.

Not at all? I mean, any other year has the number 4 girl ever managed to beat Yuko/Acchan? And has the votes for that #4 girl ever been that close in number to Yuko/Acchan? Probably not. Its a little unorthodox. I mean, I havent really been paying much attention to see how much of a push/promo Sasshi has been getting to see if among fans she is equally as popular as Yuko, so maybe it isnt that weird.

But as a casual fan she kinda came outta nowhere. Its like, scandal, transfer, hkt general manager, and then tada number 1 in the election. You have to admit its all going (a tad) suspiciously well for her right now lol. I cant shade her too much though, girl knows how to work the system, clearly.

No one has ever beat Yuko or Atsuko until now but former #4 were Mariko, Mayu, Sasshi, Itano and Takahashi. For Itano and Takahashi #4 was there highest, for Mariko her highest was #3 and lowest was this year at #5 and Mayu's lowest was #5 and highest was this years #2. This year is a landmark.

The thing is, Acchan wasn't there anymore. Yuko was not the sole center of this year's singles (nor was Mayuyu). There was a lot of room for stuff to move around. Back when Mariko was #3, a lot of people thought she would win the next year and to be fair, it was easy to believe that.

The only thing I can add is..

her scandal..

was with a fan.

Do the math.

But personally I really don't believe the elections are shady at all. Janken Taikai might have been weird last year, that I'm willing to believe (though I wouldn't swear on it; it could have been legit). But I'm fairly sure the elections are right.

Sasshi has a LOT of casual fans because she's ALL OVER variety shows. She's popular because she's funny. TV Shows invite her because she's funny and casual fans like her because they see her all over TV. I keep hearing stories about casual fans asking their core fan friends how to vote for her, so I really think it's all legit.

As for Yuko.. I just think she didn't do the effort this year. She wasn't really playing to win, I think. She's sort of over it. Her rivalry with Acchan isn't there anymore to push her.. I mean seeing how she reacted at being named #2.. no tears, she was laughing. Surprise, a bit, but she definitely didn't seem mad or disappointed much. She was less present in media over the last year, from what I could perceived (hard to say from this side of the world..). Somehow I didn't expect her to win at all. Mayuyu maybe (though not after I saw day 1 results). But .. not Yuko. For some reason.

Do you really think that because her scandal was with a fan that it didn't effect her that much? Personally I think that it was just further evidence that if you are popular and the evidence isn't explicit you can survive and scandal.

I think because her scandal was with a fan, some fans might think they have a shot at her.

Of course, what you said is also true, but that's also reflected in Miichan dropping only 4 ranks (which could have happened EVEN without the scandal), Nacchan ranking (my happiest moment of the elections), etc.
