The Show: Season 1:
Spoiler: show
Last Idol is a battle royale-style competition airing on TV Asahi, starting August 12, 2017 in the Midnight timeslot, following female idols in their fight to debut as part of a 7-member group produced by Akimoto Yasushi (Onyanko Club, 48/46). The program hopes to make stars and to provide a spotlight for idols that have not had the chance to flourish.

The show will begin with 7 contestants. Each week a Challenger will appear and nominate one of the current seven to a one-on-one performance battle. As soon as the winner of the battle is chosen they will immediately take the contested seat and act as a training member of the group. The last seven girls in the group at the end of the show will win the chance to debut.

Applicant Information & Requirements:
• No experience is necessary. Applicants may be professionals, amateurs, and/or actively part of another group.
-- Applicants signed to an agency or entertainment office must obtain permission to participate.
• Must be between the ages of 13 - 26 (as of August 18, 2017).
• Those that pass must be able to attend daily lessons in Tokyo.
• Winners must be able to start activities as the debuting group after being chosen.
-- If a winner is already a member of an active group, these new activities can be carried out simultaneously.

Update: An audition for a 2nd Unit was announced in September 2017. Girls that previously lost battles for the main Last Idol unit were eligible for a second chance. The first 2nd Unit, named Good Tears, was revealed in episode 10 on October 14, 2017 with the song "Namida no Kamen" (涙の仮面; Mask of Tears).

Update: A 3rd overall unit (second 2nd Unit) featuring three girls that previously lost battles for the main Last Idol unit was suddenly announced. The 3rd group, named Chou Cream Rockets (シュークリームロケッツ; Cream Puff Rockets), was revealed in episode 13 on November 4, 2017 with the song "Souzoujou no Fruits" (想像上のフルーツ; Imaginary Fruits). Note: The romanization was surmised from the official Twitter handles. Choux cream is the Japanese name for what is commonly known as a cream puff in the USA.

Update: A 4th overall unit (third 2nd Unit) featuring six girls that previously lost battles for the main Last Idol unit was announced. The 4th group, named Someday Somewehre, was revaled in episode 17 on December 2, 2017 with the song "Again & Again".

If someone wants to translate the names and details of the first seven contestants, I'll make the first post look at least half-way decent.

1. 間島和奏(まじまわかな/17)Majimawa Kana
She was an AKB48 Draft member but never made it into the main group. She hopes to fulfill her dream on becoming a full idol.
From Hokkaidou, 5th grade, no one can beat her white skin.

Image
2. 吉崎綾(よしざきあや/21)Yoshizaki Aya
She's 21 years old, and though she doesn't want to lean on it as her only trait, she would like to do her best as the oldest.
Mother is Filipino, father is half-Japanese. She spent her early childhood in the Philippines which stunted her Japanese language learning, so they forbade Tagalog being spoken in the house so that she could strengthen her Japanese skills. She likes to chat, but sometimes doesn't know the words and gets by via facial expression, gestures, and so on.

Her intro doesn't mention anything about it, but she's a current model/actress. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%90%89 ... E%E7%B6%BE
Spoiler: show

Image
3. 小澤愛実(おざわあいみ/14)Ozawa Aimi
Young and inexperienced, but in order to grasp this opportunity, she wants to do her best til the end.
Good at drawing, but also physical thing. She did gymnastics fro kindergarten until 6th grade, good at rope jumping, a variety of fighting techniques. Because of her confidence in moving her body, she hopes to be able to express herself this way.

Image
4. 安田愛里(やすだあいり/18)Yasuda Airi
She'll do her best to be an idol that everyone longs for(??).
Everyone is surprised by her personality gap. She looks very stern, but her personality is very fearful/shy/cute (uyu uyu).

Image
5. 長月翠(ながつきみどり/17)Nagatsuki Midori
She is currently a member of the idol group Opening Sisters, which will disband in September. She's not done being an idol, and will do her best as though this is her last chance.
[I'm not really clear what she's saying in her "I won't lose to anyone else!" section. Something about being really good at coming back from negative experiences?

18)Yamada Mahiro
She has loved singing/dancing since she was little and decided to apply to try something that will maker her smile while doing those things. She will do her very very best.
She has been learning dance since she was eight, jazz, ballet, tap, and she started hip-hop a year ago. She has a lot of experience in many genres of dance and wishes to become an idol to express various things.

Image
7. 相澤瑠香(あいざわるか/18)Aizawa Ruka
She was a local idol in the past (*article doesn't say, but she was in Sendai☆Syrup) and was unable to fill the Sekisui Heim Super Arena. She wants to be an enthusiastic idol who can fulfill that dream.
She's really good at not giving up. She started out in the bottom of her previous idol group, but gradually worked her way to the upper group.

First episode. There's a studio audience, and it looks to be a relatively recognizeable MC/judge lineup. I know faces but not names, so if someone wants to throw them out for me I'll add them to the first post too.

Alternates:

Summary:
Spoiler: show
- Intro to the concept of the show.
- Audition footage.
- Introduction of the first 7, starting from Center (1) position.
- Clips of the girls learning song and choreo for the show.
- Performance of the song by the first 7.
- First challenger appears; Ringo Musume's leader & 7th generation member, Orin (王林).
- Nominates Ozawa Aimi (position #3).
- Battle will happen next week.

My personal opinions:
Spoiler: show
- I hope battles happen in the same episode someone is introduced in starting by the third episode, or this is going to be a little annoying. I really expected the episodes to fill an hour slot, not a half hour.
- The song sounds like a basic AKB track.
- The choreo is okay.
- I'm fairly sure they didn't sing it live, which is annoying since they're going to have to sing for the damn battles anyway.
- I recently watched the "Idol Matsuri" competition/event with Ringo Musume in it, so it was nice to recognize the pink member in the audience.
