You should go see them anyway! They're lots of fun, and tickets are only $18 at each of those venues.

At the risk of sounding like a cheapskate, that's too much money for me when factoring in gas prices. And I wouldn't have anyone to go with anyway. My brother would probably be interested in it, but those dates are on days he works. :fear:

I hope nothing gets in the way of my going this time. In 2017 they didn't come to the Bay Area; their nearest show was in Fresno. :?: I bought a ticket to see them in San Francisco last October, but a family obligation forced me to miss the show, ruining my perfect record of having seen them every time they've come to the Bay Area. :x

Shonen Knife released their latest album, Our Best Place, on February 15th on P-Vine in Japan and Good Charamel Records in North America.

https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/PCD-25359
https://www.goodcharamel.com/store/c56/ ... ON%29.html

But the release that has me really excited is coming on July 19th: Minna Tanoshiku, which is being released for the first time on both CD and vinyl.

Minna Tanoshiku is Shonen Knife's ultra-rare debut album from 1982. It was released in an edition of 50 privately produced, individually kiss-printed cassette tapes. XA Record soon afterward released an unauthorized cassette reissue with different cover art, purportedly only 39 copies, before the band shut it down. The album has never been legitimately reissued, and I'm not even aware of any CD or vinyl bootlegs, but MP3s have been floating around on the internet for at least 15 years.

Most of the songs were re-recorded for the first two official albums, Burning Farm and Yama no Attchan, and a few of the others (including the two live tracks) have appeared as bonus tracks or on Knife Collectors fan club releases, but I don't believe either "Planet X" or "Saboten" (a cover of Delta 5's "You") has ever been released on CD or vinyl. The band rarely even acknowledges the existence of Minna Tanoshiku: It doesn't appear in the discography on their official web site (though it does appear in one sentence of the band history), and they haven't even announced this reissue there, even though it's being released by their current label.

CD edition at CD Japan: https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/PCD-25360
The limited vinyl edition is already sold out at CD Japan, but it's still available through other online outlets. I pre-ordered mine from Cromulent Records.

The release of Minna Tanoshiku has been postponed until November 15th.

EDIT: And postponed again until March 20, 2024.

EDIT: And YET AGAIN until September 18, 2024! No idea what's causing the delay, but my guess is that there's some legal folderol that's gumming up the works. :swear:
