The "Ding Dong" music video will up on 2/17 @ 8pm



Sato Masaki, who graduated from Morning Musume in December 2021, will make her solo debut on March 29th with her first single "Ding Dong / Romantic Nante Gara Janai". A new artist photo of her wearing a bright red outfit has been released, and the music video (MV) of "Ding Dong" will be released on YouTube at 8pm on March 17th.

The lyrics for "Ding Dong," one of the two A-side singles, was written by Maeyamada Kenichi a.k.a. Hyadain and arranged by Mitsuki Tokuda, is a modern interpretation of "Nu-disco" and high-energy music of the late 70s and 80s.

Maeyamada, who was strongly aware of Sato Masaki as a "jokester" in her Morning Musume days, says she sang the song with a lot of whispers of sexual words. Maeyamada explains, "I asked her to express the most aggressive, mature, and bewitching Sato Masaki in her career to date."

On the other hand, "Romantic Nante Gara Janai" was produced mainly by zopp (lyrics) and Shusui (music), the duo responsible for many hit songs such as "Seishun Amigo" (Shuji and Akira). The arrangement by Anders Dannvik from Sweden makes the song unique.

Sato said, "I'm so grateful for my first single since I became a soloist, and I'm so happy from the bottom of my heart! The songs that came to me! Songs that will go hand in hand in the future! There is so much love for the songs from the writers, so in order not to betray that love, I will do my best to improve my performance and expression even more from now on! Thank you for your support! I hope you will support me!"

Good song! And the production/arrangement have (to my ears, at least) the kind of retro-late-90s/early-2000s Jpop sound that's been popping up with some of the acts that I like lately.

The song is nice enough and I suppose it's nice to see Masaki getting a solo career, but I can't help but feel that all these M-line soloists run together. Masaki has such a strong character and personality, that it really sticks out on this one.

This could've easily been an Ogata Risa song/video (even down to the white suit she was wearing and the red dance shots in Kitty) or something Karin puts out.

I wish they had more distinct directions for each artist, or did something more traditionally "idol" or old school H!P with one of them. Of course this is only the first release, so maybe time will tell otherwise.
