Yeesh that was quick.
I had a feeling she would leave before Akari but I didn’t expect that to be the same year as Ayaka and Rina.
I was hoping She and Akari would be like Ayaka and Kanon, and stay for a few years as a duo.

I knew it had to happen eventually. I hope she has a blast for the last few months she's with ANGERME, and I'm glad she has something she wants to do.

Yeah this one is not surprising either. I guess with Ayaka leaving and Rina leaving it was to be expected. I'm also a little not happy with the timing because I agree this means Kana probably wont get a grad single (maybe we will get lucky with some solo released digitally but I wouldn't bet on it) And it sucks because I've always loved Kana more than Rina, especially after Yattaruchan (also because a) shes from Osaka where I lived and b) she looks like a younger version of a professor I had in college that I really loved)

As a note I think Takechan will stick around. Not just because of her position as leader - which is part of it - but because of Fukuchan. The two are really close and started as eggs together. They also just recently were both put into positions of leadership, Fukuchan as H!P leader and Takechan as Angerme leader. I think if Fukuchan announces a graduation we will see Takechan leave soon after or vice versa. Its sort of like when Haruna Iikubo left it was only a matter of time before Ayaka would leave as well and she did.

As another note, without 1st and 2nd gen (I mean with the exception of Takechan) this is really going to feel like Angerme and not S/mileage as Angerme. A new Angerme era. I'm actually kind of excited for that. I think the group has done a good job of distancing themselves from their s/mileage past which it sort of really needed to do.

Just to clarify, Wada's graduation announcement came before Iikubo's, but it's easy to forget that because there was an unusually long interval between Wada's announcement and her actual graduation.

More generally, we all need to remember this stuff is planned out well in advance. The management is always talking to the individual members about their plans for the future and whether they want to continue with the heavy workload of a Hello! Project idol (which is already a step up from a typical idol). The talks might intensify when their contracts come up for renewal, but they never stop talking. And when the management and a particular member agree that it's time for the member to graduate, it might be several months before they announce that even to the other members, much less to the general public.

The idol business is still a business.

Oh yes, I forgot that, but its a vice versa. Once Ayaka announced it was only a matter of time that we would hear Iikubo's announcement... and thats not to assume that Iikubo found out when we did and then made her decision directly as a result of the announcment, I don't think that at all, but if these girls are friends outside of H!P and the public view they are probably discussing their future plans with one another before anyone else, even management, knows what they are deciding.

So in my mind Ayaka and Haruna probably discussed their future goals to one another at some point and decided around the same time to leave. (I imagine if Ayaka had said that she was going to stay an extra year for example, even though Iikubo may have been ready to leave she may have been more inclined to stay an extra year because Ayaka was etc). And of course its not always like that, sometimes even the closest friends have different goals, but it happens fairly often and pretty naturally. I have had people at work decide to leave because another coworker was leaving and they realized the timing was just right to go too. (My roommate for example who decided to leave his job a few years ago because his boss was moving on and they had a very close working relationship for the several years he was there.) Sometimes a big shake up like having someone else leave makes you re-think your own ambitions. (Things are changing, should I stick through the change or should I move on to something new too?)

The contract thing is more the real motivator for graduations - we always seem to see it around the 4-5 year mark I believe, but I don't think it is always a coincidence when it leads to a domino effect and another 1-2 girls go soon after the first one.
