And I'm really starting to like S/mileage more and more. They're Platinum/Emo-Musume-esque songs really work for them. I feel like Tsunku kind of saw how they could get niched into the hyper/songs and decided to mature them up a bit to match their ages.

Well, they did get a #1 in 2013 (Tabidachi no Haru ga Kita), and Berryz and C-ute already got a #1 before.

It might just be me but I think the whole "ew" thing about Susukino is exaggerated. From my understanding it's just like Kabukichou in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Which, while it is mostly owned by Yakuza and has tons of host/hostess clubs etc, it's hardly a horrible place. I've been several times even if just to go to one of the izakaya around there to have a drink or two.
They have adult-themed things, of course. And that is always a bit ew wtf but aside from that it's just like any big "party" area. I haven't been to Susukino myself, but as they say it's the Kabukichou of Sapporo, I have a hard time imagining it's suddenly much worse.
Ayaka said the song is about a girl fighting with her boyfriend and she goes to hang out in Susukino. Putting this in Tokyo terms she would go to Kabukichou and, possibly, go to a hostclub to forget her loneliness and instead spend ridiculous amounts of money on alcohol and get empty flattery from the hosts. And that's it.
Nothing more, nothing less. It's a questionable (though really common) behavior, but it's hardly worthy of all the "ew" people throw around here, imo.
^Daily =/= as important as Weekly.

This. Daily honestly doesn't really matter. it's the weekly that matters. now if an artist got 6 days of daily #1 but still failed to get #1 weekly there'd probably be an uproar/tom-foolery but other than that it's the weekly that matters first and foremost.
