Her singing was actually pretty good there. Her voice gives this illusion that she's not hitting notes properly, but if you listen carefully she's actually hitting most of the notes well and timing is pretty much perfect.

^I actually agree with esm there. Her sense of rhythm and timing was never lacking... it's her natural singing pitch that's her downfall lol.

Plus no one is ever talking about her singing when they, justifiably, heaped praise on Sayu's stage skill anyway XD
Her sheer presence, her expressiveness, her aura of dignity and charm... I don't think anyone reasonable would argue against her owning it in that department.

That and her eloquence and quick wit are what makes her very good at PR, interviews and variety shows too now that I think about it...
I would really miss her in performances :<

I actually prefer her version of My Days For You to Manoeri's. No one can say that Sayu is a great singer, but she's become very consistent. I'd rank her higher than half of current MM.

EDIT: One of my favorite Sayu performances. She has so much fun with it. She needs her own post-MM v-u-den.

EDIT 2: It was also quite the revelation when they realized how well her voice worked with a vocalizer. I'll never get tired of that hair-grope at 2:10.

She hasn't been to any Morning Musume's lives since her son was born but she said she absolutely will go to Sayu's graduation concert.
Thank you Kaorin T T

What a surprise 、、、

How should I say it
If Michishige-san graduates
Then it feels like
The Morning Musume。-san

Will disappear。
It feels like we're on the verge of a new generation。
Inside myself、 you know
I want to go to the graduation live (._.)

My Ears  .

Can't doubt the tremendous shift she's made for the group itself, but people need to stop over exaggerating her skills on stage. Girl's still tone deaf

Maybe you don't know what tone deaf means? It's not really about your production of notes but with your ability to accurately hear them them, which is what enables you to correct your own pitch. Plenty of people have excellent ears but can't sing worth a lick. It's a bit rarer to encounter those people who have really good voices, but can't identify the notes they're singing. But every so often they show up on Idol type shows, impressively belting out a song in one key but already in a different key by the fourth note. In this clip, 50% of the problem is that Sayumi simply can't reach the low notes especially at the beginning, and the other 50% is that she lacks a bit of control over large intervals. Neither one of those has anything to do with being tone deaf; she's really quite evidently not tone deaf because she basically nails all the high notes. In terms of pitch, I mean, not in terms of style. Stylistically she's no Adele, no doubt. On the other hand, # of Adele songs I own or wish to own = ZERO, so when it comes to actually enjoying the sound of the voice, Sayu's way ahead in my book, despite her limitations. Ahead of Manoeri, too.
