"Fukumura Dash" was so touching, seriously. ;o; And considering they're using it on TV and thus staff obviously knows it and all? They better use it for something at some point. Too good of a name not to be used tbh.

I understand why UF* is pushing Miki as an English speaker but as an actual English speaker Miki's English is obviously a lot better than most but she has an odd accent and her grammar is off here and there.

But I guess this is H!P's first English speaker since Coconuts so they gotta exploit it as much as possible.

Donald Duck. She has mentioned in one of her Q&A that she is good at it.

^^Eh, she only lived abroad for a while, and it sounds like she's been back in Japan for a bit, too. She probably hasn't been speaking it much since she got back, so it could just be rusty.

It's still really good, and I'm glad they're letting her speak it. They never really "let" Junjun and Linlin speak Chinese (I get why, don't get me wrong) so it's nice to see them acknowledge the fact that Nonaka speaks a different language. It's stupid, but it makes me feel kind of more included as and English-speaking fan I guess.

Her english pronunciation is very good in comparison to other asians I know who aren't as fluent and having it as their second language.

Pronunciation from reading a memorized statement isn't really indicative of fluency one way or another. Frex, Maaya Sakamoto can't really speak English, but sounds perfectly fluent when you give her something English to sing. OTOH there are plenty of Japanese people who are basically fluent except for having a really strong accent and some grammar tics.

So imo we need to hear her having an unrehearsed conversation in English first before we figure out her level of fluency.

From what I heard at Anime Expo 2009, Linlin also seemed to be quite good at English, but we had almost no opportunities to hear that during her 3½ years in the group.

For Miki, as I understand it, she lived in the US until she was 10. She probably didn't speak or hear much English in the 5 years she's been back in Japan. Keeping up two different languages, especially in an environment where one of the languages is rare, is really tough. And she could probably regain her former fluency in English but now that she's in Momusu, she just won't have time. Speaking from experience, when one of the languages you speak starts to go rusty, it takes a lot of work and immersion to get it back up to level. Besides, her English is good enough given that her primary market is Japanese fans.
