From the most recent UFLICKs I feel like Mano did a good job of doing her "idol" songs without seeming too idol-y. My Days for You especially could've been a brand new song and Genkimono might be harder to un-idolize she did a fairly good job.

On the other hand Gaki was still very much idol-y in her performance. Not that that's necessarily bad but I think it just makes it harder for girls who can't shed the idol-style of performing as easily to really lose that image of being an idol.

Hm... interesting. o.o I just thought/think of Gaki as a good and energetic performer. I wouldn't say that her performances are typically idoly... but she definitely has the same style as she had in MM towards the end of her run.
...but I never thought she was much of an "typical idol" there either, so.

She was never a typical idol. She was a comedic actress — a rather good one, in fact — who happened to grow up in an idol group. She didn't even stand like an idol. She had that hand-on-hip, rolled-shoulder posture that almost looked like a slouch, and up until the last few years, her singing was more like shouting to music.

So, when she sings her old songs like this, think of her as an actress playing an idol who sings her old songs.

The thing that made Risa loveable and unqiue was the fact that she was not like the rest. She had a brand new style ♥.

I'm always pretty surprised when people mention how bad of a singer she was because listening to them I always thought that was her strongest area. Her solo is Do It Now used to be my favorite part of the song when I was a new fan.

her solo lines in Oosaka Koi no Uta are still my favorite.
