Idk it just annoys me when people say H!P groups aren't idol groups because they have talent or whatever. Guys, they're still an idol group.

Annoys me when people point out things that are obvious tbh.

They're far more talented than what idols are "supposed" to be. C-ute have a different aura that's WAY more artist-like than idol-like. OBVIOUSLY they're still idols, but it honestly almost puts them down a bit as that by default puts them in the same category as shouting Momoclo and whatever else groups there are. So pointing out that they're obviously above their own genre is hardly something bad. OBVIOUSLY that doesn't change their profession though, that's not what anyone's trying to do.

-non sequitur-
I like to think being idols as well as talented performers are not mutually exclusive
The slanted public perception that's usually dismissive towards idols kinda suck but I sure hope it doesn't translate into pressure for the more talented girls to abandon/distance themselves from the idol brand and instead channel it into constant improvement efforts and take pride in what they do.

...but that's exactly what's happening.
"Idols are stupid and can't sing or aren't really talented and only have old men fans so I don't want to become one." Granted it has changed A BIT, but having main selling idols that either lipsync or scream-sing doesn't really help at all.

I was more referring to our current H!P girls, not hopeful/potential idol auditionees (is this a word? XD )
Granted I only closely follow H!P related acts but I love the fact that they took pride in their performance quality by using it as their selling point as idols and keep raising the bar for the niche imo instead of pretentiously distancing themselves from it since you know... in the end they're still run by an Idol management company lol.

I dunno, I just don't feel like them being idols is a bad thing. If they're considered idols and they're really really good, they're the best (or at least most talented) of the genre. If they're artists, they're... more likely gonna be average.

I'm not sure how to word it. But. They have a bigger chance of making an impact as idols than they do as artists?

Idols are both idols and artists. Although they might not necessarily have much input into what they do, they still perform what contributes to an art form of music and dance.

Anyway the 1minute version doesn't really do the song justice, but they're perfect singing compensates for it. I think a live would with the dance break would've been better, but y'know those other mediocre idol groups needed more screen time so whatevs.

^^ Absolutely agree with your last line. Can't they create a new genre of the talented idols? I think they can.

I don't think they would be average artists if they are considered to be artists though. They are never going to be musicians, but I could consider them very good artists. For me good artists perform well, but good musicians know the in and out of their music. They are more artist-like than Momoclo imo though. :P

And I do not worry too much about ℃-ute chasing away unrefined talented young girls. Tsunku always look for those kind of girls for MM, and it took ℃-ute 10 years to arrive at this level.

That's what this amounts to, for me. Skill at performance is not some great unattainable thing; I've seen community groups put on shows that rivaled, in skill, what you would see on Broadway, though if course without the money for props and lighting, etc.C-ute has worked very hard for many years and it shows.
