~H!P Encounters in the Wild~

Postby boinsie » Wed May 08, 2013 11:55 pm

Tell us about times you've run into H!P-related things in your day-to-day life!

This weekend I went down to the international district (Seattle). Roaming through Daiso in search of my caramel corn poofs (of which there were none), I was surprised to hear a familiar tune, "Mamotte Agetai". Granted, it was the original, rather than Kamei/Gaki's cover from the Champloo album, but it still made me smile. :thumbs-up:

Not example H!P, but a few years ago I was at the commuter lounge on campus, and some guys were browsing H!O :fear:

More recently, some kids I tutor were watching this while slacking off on youtube (I think they got there through searching for "worst music video ever")

When I was in Toronto in '06, I saw a familiar face on the signage for a hair salon:

I was at a Korean Market, and there was a visor, and they had photoshopped Ayaya's Yeah Meccha Holiday onto a cartoon body on the visor

^ Wait, really? I normally stay out of the non-candy sections of Uwajimaya...
I don't even normally wash my face!, but I'll have to make a trip back down there this weekend if I can get Tsuji face soap. :o :hehe:
Ah, that reminds me: around X-mas time when I went to Uwajimaya and was looking for a gift for someone, Aruiteru was playing in the gifts/housewares section.

I remember one time I was in Kinokuniya in NYC and they had displays for all members of MM gen 4: A big poster for hANGRY and ANGRYf, an ad for some NYC map that Aibon was shilling for and a display for one of Tsuji's books.

Is Kinokuniya really "in the wild", though? You go to a Japanese book and music store, you're likely to find Japanese books and music.

Awwwww.
My hopes, they are dashed. ^^;;

When I went to Japan back in Feb 2007, the only H!P-related songs I heard on overhead radio/etc in stores were Nakazawa's URARA and WaT's Ready Go! :hehe:

^ I heard "Yuke Yuke Monkey Dance" at a Yoshinoya in Akihabara.

Nijiya Market in San Francisco's Japantown had an advertising banner for Pocky featuring Ayaya, Ishihara Satomi, Nakama Yukie, and Shibasaki Kou for several years. I was very sad when they took it down.

The first time I went to Japan (in 2006), you could still see Ayaya's picture all over the place. My favorite was the triple image on the sides of the Kirin drink machines:

^ When you yourself are responsible for the H!Pishness, that would be more like a staged photo shoot than an encounter in the wild.

Not exactly encountering H!P itself, but I received an Idol!Swap package containing a variety of things including but not limited to 2 dream musume towels (and a keychain)

and the guy in front of me in my Japanese class (granted it's a Japanese class, but still it's very rare these days that people would know..) "Oh, Dream Musume. They are like comfortable old slippers that you like putting back on."

So I discovered he was an H!P fan.

Also the dorimusu quote was sort of gold lol.

I could probably think of others..

It's definitely a cute quote, especially since he gave it off the cuff like that. But wait...you were opening your mail in class?
Or, you purposefully brought DMM towels to class with you?

Nah i was totally opening my mail in class. I mean I left my house to go to class and a huge package was there so I was curious what was in it again, so I just brought it with me and opened it during the break.

I once saw AKB48 Puucho's in London but in Edinburgh we have Japanese Restaurants but they are owned by Chinese families. Other than anime and theatre during the festival I don't even encounter the most tame Japanese references let alone H!P :( I do learn a little about Cpop and HK cinema in my every day life sometimes.
I used to have a Tumblr about Idols...
