I'm ready for a hard freeze — the box-elder bugs and stink bugs are getting ridiculous here.

Speaking of insects - I just went to put on a pair of trousers only to find that there was a massive cockroach in them . Thankfully I noticed it before I actually put them on but holy fuck I'm not used to this lol.

^ WTF

Once, a cockroach crawled across my bed while I was pulling out the bed sheet to wash. It's like, wtf I was just sleeping on that a while ago.

I'm definitely ready for it to get cooler. It doesn't feel like fall when it's constantly above 65°F.

I'm not used to having cockroaches or any other insects/bugs . Where I used to live was too cold/wet for most of them. But here we get cockroaches, ants, bigger spiders, praying mantis, grasshoppers amongst other things. It's not too bad, but I have to remind myself that these things exist here, lol.

In Wellington we only had weta (which are like... a cockroach mixed with a grasshopper?) and stick insects.

I'd like a hard freeze... But it's Florida, so that ain't gonna happen. The lovebugs are insane right now. And their guts get all over the windshield. Yuck.

Florida has way too many bugs. Fire ants seem to thrive down here.

It's still summer in Southern California - we're supposed to get a Santa Ana wind (high fire danger in the mountains and foothill) tomorrow, and later in the week, it may even cool down to the high 70s. XD
But of course, we're still getting less daylight, and I'm starting to feel it - I'm far too sensitive to low levels of light.

Speaking of bugs, today at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, I saw a girl wearing a military-style cap, but instead of an insignia, it had a plastic (?) stag beetle on it. Very cool!

This year the festival had fewer acts that I was interested in than it did last year, but I saw Emmylou Harris, Randy Newman, and Cheap Trick — whom I'd never seen live before, even though I've enjoyed their music since I was 13. (I gravitate more toward the "hardly strictly" than the bluegrass at this festival.)

And what would Sunday morning be without a sermon from the Reverend Jello Biafra, preaching to the choir? Amen, Brother!

I took a break in the afternoon to shop at Amoeba Music on Haight Street. This will probably be of no interest to anyone but TotallyUncool, but I got the soundtrack CD to The Legend of the Waterbreakers, a film by Naoko Nozawa, with music by Hoppy Kamiyama and eX-Girl, for only $2.99!

That is a find! From the rather confusing description I found online (quite a while ago), I got the impression that eX-Girl starred in it as well (as a band in which all the members were pregnant, and gave birth onstage).

And it's good to see Jello Biafra still causing trouble! XD

Yes, it says "Starring eX-Girl" on the CD sleeve. Now if I could only find the DVD in Amoeba's bargain bin!

I also bought a DVD of GCB47 LIVE IN SSKN feat. AKKUMA for a mere $1.99. What is GCB47? Check out this video:

GCB stands for Gotouchi Chara Band, a band comprised of local or regional mascot characters. I got to see Akkuma and Koakkuma live at J-Pop Summit in 2015 and 2016.

I know most of you don't care but... The U.S. just failed to qualify for the world cup for the first time since 1986, and I'm quite pissed about it (it was a pathetic showing against the WORST TEAM'S B-TEAM...) sooooo yeah >_>

The men's team failed to qualify, the women's team is still there :starra:. But I know what you mean. Thankfully I never need to give a shit about football ("soccer") because NZ fucking sucks at it, lol.

For the most part, I've been too busy lately too busy to keep track of anything, but in general, I think I'd like to cheer for the extreme underdogs in any major athletic competition. So, maybe, a final match between Midway Island and the Ross ice shelf. XD

The smokes from the North Bay fires reached my area this morning.

I feel bad for the people who pretty much lost everything in an instant. :(

^ Yeah, we could see and smell the smoke in Berkeley today.

It reminds me of the Oakland Hills firestorm back in '91. One of my friends lost her house in that one.

On the other hand, you have the All Blacks for rugby! (One of my friends is a rugby referee and a big fan.)

I've got friends and relatives in Sonoma County - so far, a couple of friends have checked in as safe on FB, but in a day or two, I'll have to call my cousin to find out how my relatives are doing. My family on my father's side has roots in Santa Rosa going back to before the Gold Rush, and when I was a kid, we lived just over the mountains, in Lake County, so it's one of those areas that feels like home to me, although I haven't been up there in years. It's beautiful countryside, and home to a lot of good people (plenty of whom were there long before the big money came in) -- I feel really sad to see so much of it burn.

Extreeeeemely sort-of-not-very-important double post:

At approximately 9:00 in the "Sally manages to make a burger without actually cutting off her fingers" showroom video, Amaki Sally sings a bit of Zone's Secret Base while cutting a carrot...
