She really wasn't that cute at her audition. In fact, she was at that early point in her adolescence where she was all gawky and long-limbed (which is typical for tall, athletic women). It didn't last much longer after that, but still. And that's why the end result is so stunning; it could have gone in very different direction.

Even on the last day of her bicycle tour, arriving at the temple completely washed out by the rain she still looked as beautiful as always.
