The Flying Get vs Golden Chinatown comparison is irrelevant to me. Both have a Chinese theme, and both gold and red are colours associated with China, with Berryz having gold as an essential colour to go with the meaning of the song. It's a free concept. Don't forget that this isn't the first H!P video with neon lights and curtains either. This song even refers to neon lights directly in the lyrics. Honestly, anyone could make a video like that... and I find Berryz's PV more relevant to the song even if AKB's was obviously better made.

Added the comparison to the Supremes "Can't Hurry Love" to Morning Musume's "Ii Koto Aru Kinen no Shunkan".

I also added Berryz Kobo's "Cha Cha Sing" to the direct covers.

Here's the original version of cha cha SING, just keep in mind that the title is Row Mah Sing.

Do actual covers really belong? It's can't be plagiarism if credit is given.

Thanks! It's updated.

Actual covers of course are not plagiarism. They're only there as an aside. Besides, none of the examples are plagiarism, that's why the title of the section has the word in quotes.

And in music (setting copyright laws and royalty issues aside), borrowing a sound, a style, a sequence of notes, or an entire tune is such an ancient and well-established tradition (everywhere, i think) that it's hard to think of it as anything but part of the tradition of music itself.

In folk music, they used to call it "the folk process," and I kind of like that name. XD

Added Guardians 4's "Party Time" vs Earth Wind And Fire's "Let's Groove".

Does anyone know where there is an online copy of the Utaban(?) episode where the Morning Musume members needed to draw an outline of Russia on the map?
