If you're exposed to American English from people speaking normally, rather than just from people are supposed to speak a certain way for the camera/recorder, plenty of people "talk sloppily" even with a standard dialect. In fact, I'm listening in on my colleagues having a conversation right now and I can't imagine this being recorded for TV or anything because half the people are mumbling.

I get what you're saying. To me though, those people are probably just talking sloppily or mumbling. I don't concider them accents or Dialects.

I see enough times in movies or TV where actors say things that are just unintelligible at times. Then they say the same thing at another time properly and coherent . Not for any other reason than speaking the lines poorly. So yeah, that's all I'm saying.

Miki speaks English on very much like I speak English to my Japanese co-workers when students are around and I'm not allowed to speak Japanese . There's a lot of careful annunciation and a weird cadence that tends to happen.

I don't think it's her being careful so much as that's just her normal english speaking voice, maybe mixed in with a little of the standard DJ training they get. She kinda has a pretty average Asian American moved-here-when-young accent. I mean if she happened to live in my neighborhood, nobody would find anything even slightly remarkable about her speaking voice -- she has way less of an accent than a lot of my Russian/Chinese/Filipino/Dominican/Puerto Rican/West Indian neighbors, just to include some of the people in the area on my floor. I think among those of us who are Americans, we often tend to interpret pointedly rhotic speech as "careful" speech.
