The other song is pretty paint by numbers.
Omg. This comment. Exactly what I thought!
The first song is exactly how I would describe a J-Pop idol to a non listener but not in a particularly positive way.
The second song however is what every J-Pop idol song should strive to be. It and Teionyakedo are J-Pop idoly enought to feel familiar but new enough to feel anxiety driven excitement. Holy fuck, this song is going in repeat.

I wonder if the number of girls to leave relatively quickly would be higher without the little taste of what you're in for that comes from the training camp.

That’s the whole point of training camp: to see how the trainees handle the stress of a professional environment and how quickly they improve under rigorous instruction. Raw talent has always been secondary to that. It's good that Kiki recognizes it, and it's more proof that Up-Front is a classy operation.
Same goes for military boot camp, albeit on a much higher level — you don't hear about it very often, but recruits "wash out" all the time. (At least in a professional, all-volunteer military like the United States.)

Fuuuuuuck.
In addition to the song being a total smash the PV is so visually appealing you totally miss the fact that it's totally a single outfit PV. I know we complain about simple green screen or curtain-chan PVs but this one has that cool clocktower plus gorgeous CG goldfish and butterflies that's it amazing.
Also, it's not being totally pushed into your face but Asada Mao is absolutely being groomed for permanent center status. She always gets lines, more often juicy lines then other girls, and she gets screen time in PVs even when she's not singing ala dance breaks. I stan. The camera loves her and she knows it.

Fuwari, what an absolutely beautiful song. I can't stop listening to it.

And due to me loving both songs so much, I have gotten the Limited B version so I could have the Fuwari MV sans subtitles!

+2
This is a very accurate way to describe how I feel about this single.
Fuwari was great. I really like the new approach they took with both videos in terms of the special effects.
The goldfish and colour scheme looked a bit off at times but overall it was great.

You're definitely talking about
Akiyama Mao (Maopin) right?
Anyway, speaking of mistaken identity, I dunno if there's something wrong with my memory or not but to me Ami looks like an entirely different person. I literally had to figure out who she was via process of elimination. Like, the shape of her face and mouth seems different, and her teeth are definitely different without question. Maybe it's been that way for a while and I'm just noticing now because all the other Tsubakies are also leveling up at the same time. Kiki for some reason who annoyed me before with her odd way of moving her mouth that makes it look like she's lip syncing even when she's just talking normally, now seems endearing to me. Rikoriko's voice has gotten so rich -- listen to her singing "naze ni deatta" at 2:10. Maopin has, I suspect, bullied the others into giving her center. So Tanimoto's been off my radar for a while but, she's back on with her magical transformation.
