People here? Except being wary of any sign of shadiness, none have any issues with Aichan dating by the looks of it.
Not sure about other H!P fans hangout since I don't keep up with the developments too closely but outside the usual goods-burning, photograph-cutting maniacs, I can't imagine there's too many people getting bothered by the general idea of an OG dating.

In my own opinion, there shouldn't be any restriction on Takahashi Ai's personal life now. Until two years ago she was in a group that included girls as young as 11 years old so she needed to lead by example and stay 100% away from dating so that the impressionable kodomo's (kids) would know that it was absolutely not okay for them to give in to temptation.

But now, she no longer has to be the kiddo's role model and she can do what ever she wants.

As for wota burning merch, I could see it if she was still in Morning Musume and got hit with a confirmed scandal, but after she graduates, no.

I don't think anyone has a problem with her dating, they have a problem with it being him, since he's an abusive asshole (as you mentioned).

If it's true though, I wish her the best of luck. If she really had stuck to the strict dating rule while in MM and this is her first venture out into dating, I can understand why she picked an asshole lol.
