My own kook theory was that Mari compulsively sought out guys because she was traumatized by all the teasing she got in MM for being short and wanted to prove that there was nothing mini about her "moni".

But really, she's just being an imperfect person in an imperfect world, like the rest of us.
It's sad, perhaps, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that some of us here have done the same, or the equivalent, in our lives, and I have no doubt that some of us will do the same at some point in our lives (whether we would now like to imagine that it's possible or not).

So I hope that when all is said and done, people here will think of her as they would a friend who, even though she may have fallen from grace a bit (or a whole lot XD ) is still a friend.

I've been ignoring it for a while now but it seems the momentum for this particular trainwreck isn't slowing down anytime soon, *coverage-wise
Never really cared about anyone's choices in their private lives, unless they're getting into trouble or confided in me personally, so this "news" was automatically filed into my "whatever" mental cabinet. I never particularly liked or had any attachment to her to begin with anyway...

My only hope concerning this recent development... is that for news reporters/shows to not bring this topic up awkwardly when dealing with current Morning Musume *shrugs

I feel bad for her and her husband - not only because it happened, but because it seems like someone around them spilled the beans for a quick payday. I don't know all of the details about their relationship though, so I'm not going to judge one way or another. It's just sad that it occured in the first place. I hope, if they feel like it's worth it/they still care for one another in the same way, they'll take some time to try and work through it.

^I agree, and it's hard to say how it will work out.

^^Most of the current members of Morning Musume (with the exception of Sayu) are (or at least look and act) so young that I would think that even for sleazy scandal-sheet reporters, it wouldn't seem right to bring it up in talking with or about them. :fear:

I would normally agree but married people who cheat are just so infuriating to me.

^Look, if you don't know how to accept the weaknesses and failings of people around you, that's your problem. And I do mean that it is a serious flaw in your character.

^^Wotakubrandon -- I understand -- I guess my feeling is that you stick by your friends, even when you know they've done something wrong.

And I understand how it could look/feel very different (and quite bad) to anyone who went through the divorce of their parents, particularly as a child or a teenager (which I know includes more than a few people here), so I'm not saying to shrug it off at all.

I guess I'm really saying that idols are as human and as fallible as the rest of us, and I think it's important to accept them as such.

Too bad about Mari, but honestly I don't care who she sleeps with or when. It's none of my business. But for their sake I hope they work it out. I hope they won't get divorced (both because of the horrible coverage it'd get, but also because they did seem like a cute couple).

Deliberate choices that hurt other people are not "weaknesses and failings".

If you take responsibility for your choices and sincerely work to make amends, then we'll talk.

But to simply "accept" it all? Are you really that desperate to be liked?
